HONOLULU (AP) — A Big Island man has been sentenced to 25 years in a federal prison for two drug offenses.
A federal judge in Honolulu sentenced Uiki Teaupa, of Kona, on Monday. A jury found him guilty in March of drug conspiracy and the distribution of more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.
The U.S. Attorney’s office says Teaupa, 42, made at least eight trips to the mainland between 2009 and 2012. Authorities say he obtained more than 20 pounds of meth during those trips, giving the drugs to a distributor on the Big Island.
Teaupa’s arrest came after a two-year joint investigation between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Hawaii County Police Department.
